Xavier Track and Field tied for 12th at the AIA State Track & Field meet at Mesa Community College last Friday and Saturday (May 16, 17). This is a true State track meet as it accommodates athletes from all conferences from within the state. Athletes qualify through their own Division meets.
Eleanor Borchard ’25 ran both hurdle races at the State Meet.
- 100 hurdles prelims: 2nd in her heat
- 100 hurdles final: 5th (four points)
- 300 hurdles prelims: 2nd in her heat
- 300 hurdles final: 3rd (six points)
Marley Stoller ’25 ran the 400m. She took 2nd place in her heat of the prelims and finished 8th (one point) in the final.
The 4x400m Relay team ran some historically fast times in the prelims and finals. In the prelims, they ran the 3rd fastest time in Xavier history. In the final, they ran the 5th fastest time in Xavier history and finished 6th for three points. The relay team ran in the following order: Vivian Amoia ’25, Kennedy Frakes ’26, Stoller, and Borchard.
Alexa Zowine ’25, school record-holder in the Javelin, entered the State meet as the top seed. She finished in 6th place (three points). In the Division 1 meet the week before, she had two throws that would have won the State Javelin competition. Here are two of her throws from State.
Vivian Amoia, school record-holder in the 100m and 200m, ran in the prelims of the 100m, but didn’t qualify for the final. The 100m State final is one of the more difficult events to qualify for. In the prelims, eleven girls ran under twelve seconds, with nine making it to the final. Our school record is 12.27.
