Respondus Lockdown Browser Software (LDB)

All Xavier students who are in a class that gives quizzes or tests via Canvas, will need to install Lock Down Browser (LDB) on their Laptop or iPad starting the 2016-2017 school year. The LDB software download link is to the right under Quick Links on your Student Landing Page.

LDB is a custom application Browser (similar to Chrome, Safari, or Internet Explorer) that is integrated with Canvas and is used specifically (and only) for taking quizzes and tests within Canvas. The sole purpose for LDB’s existence is to ensure testing integrity for the Student and Teacher. LDB is also used at Brophy College Preparatory and other high schools across the state and nation who deliver electronic assessments through a learning management system (like Canvas).

LDB was created for the 3 major operating systems only:

  • Microsoft Windows operating system (Laptops with Windows 7, 8, 10)
  • Apple OSX operating system (Laptops with OSX 10)
  • Apple IOS operating system (iPads)

LDB does not work with Chromebooks or Android Tablets. If you have this type of device, you will need to work with your Teacher to checkout a loaner iPad or Laptop for your test. Additionally, there are times when using LDB is not necessary (your Teacher will let you know).
