On Tuesday night, April 22, Xavier Lacrosse put together a barrage of goals throughout the night on Petznick Field to defeat Notre Dame Prep 14-2. The outcome did not surprise anyone as the Gators entered the match-up with a 6-3 win-loss record and a tie for the #4 ranking in the ten-team state lacrosse standings, while the Saints were winless in their first nine games.

Xavier led 5-0 after the first quarter, 11-1 after the second, and 12-2 after the third quarter before tacking on two more goals in the final period.

The two players causing the most damage offensively were junior Amelia Busch and Sophomore Mckenna Packer. The highlight video below reveals their offensive impact for this game.

Amelia scored five goals and showed a variety of ways to rack up the points.

  • rushing the middle weaving through the defense with ball in pocket before stuffing it in the net
  • receiving a pass while cutting down the middle before stuffing the ball in the net
  • low side-arm shots from near the top of the 8-meter arc that zip past the goalie
  • making shots on goal that bounce off the ground a couple of feet in front of the goal and into the net

Mckenna scored three goals and had three assists. Like I call point guard Lucy Sanford on the Xavier basketball team, Mckenna is the FACILITATOR.

Other players with multiple goals were junior Claire McCloskey (2) and sophomore Keegan Packer (2). Senior Sydni Mackey and junior Sammy Schubert accounted for the remaining two goals.
