Xavier takes 2nd at Fr. Olivier Invite; Produces Three XCP All-Time Top Ten Marks

April 2, 2024

by Chris Pfaff

The Father Olivier FR/SO & Varsity Open is a busy, three-faceted meet held at the Brophy Track. The main focus is the FR/SO competition, from where the team scores are determined. Then, there’s the Varsity Open competition, which is not scored. Finally, there is the two-day girls heptathlon and boys decathlon competitions.

At the end of this year’s meet, a team other than Xavier was awarded the Runner-up Trophy for the FR/SO competition. Apparently, the long jump competition had not concluded yet, so team scores were incomplete without the yet-to-be-determined long jump results. Xavier’s team score shot up 21 points in the long jump with sophomores Kyleigh Carr, Chloe Cundiff, and Nia Ubom going 1 – 2 – 6. Xavier takes 2nd place!

Here’s the TOP 5 of 17 TEAMS

Three Xavier All-Time Track & Field Top-Ten marks emerged from the Varsity Open races and the Heptathlon

The 4 x 100m Relay team of SR Maya Ofori, JR Eleanor Borchard, SR Mackenzie Lopez, and JR Marley Stoller ran a very fast 48.24, putting this group of sprinters 2nd place all-time for Xavier. Interestingly, three of these girls were on the 4 x 100m relay team of 2023 that established the current school record of 48.20.

After transferring from Oaks Christian, CA, this year, Eleanor has now claimed a spot in six Xavier Top-Ten lists — the fifth being the aforementioned 4x100m relay, and the sixth being the 100m. She ran a 12.61, good enough to rank 9th all time for Xavier.

Finally, there’s the heptathlon, where athletes compete in seven events over two days: (Day 1) – 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m; (Day 2) – long jump, javelin, and 800m. Competitors earn points based on a scoring table for each event. Maija Kaprosy — just a freshman and competing in her first heptathlon for Xavier — racked up 2683 points to put her in 9th place all time for Xavier. Maija has 3 1/2 seasons to climb the Xavier Heptathlon Top-Ten ladder.
