by Chris Pfaff

Twenty-two women’s track teams converged on Red Mountain HS on Friday, March 14. Xavier came in 2nd behind the host team, Red Mountain. The top 5 teams were:
– 120 Red Mtn
– 101 XCP
– 83 Hamilton
– 74 Desert Vista
– 53 Corona del Sol

The meet was split into the SEEDED division and the ELITE division. The Elite division determined team scores.

XAVIER HIGHLIGHTS

JR Vivian Amoia ran a huge PR — from 13.18 to 12.89 — in the SEEDED 100m to take first place and qualify to run in the Elite Division finals in the evening session.

Xavier went 1-2 in the 400 meters with juniors Eleanor Borchard 57.83 and Marley Stoller 59.85. Eleanor is a junior transfer who brings a 56.59 PR with her to Xavier from California. Her 57.83 moves her into 4th place on the XCP All-Time Top Ten list. Marley already sits at 5th place on the top ten list with a 57.99, which she ran earlier this season.

SR Julia Russo continued her outstanding season with a second-place finish in the 800m and a two-second PR of 2:24.77.

JR Alexa Zowine didn’t get to compete in the Elite division of javelin, but she took first place in the Seeded division. But what makes this so special is that this is her first year — and only her 2nd meet –throwing the javelin. BUT GET THIS: Alexa moves into the Xavier All-Time Top Ten list for javelin at 2nd place!

The 4 x 400m Relay team of Bella Gomez, Kaira Burrage, Mackenzie Lopez, and Eleanor Borchard took 1st place.

The 4 x 100m Shuttle Hurdle team of Mackenzie, Eleanor, Kaira, and Annette Gbekia also took 1st place.
