Xavier Badminton Singles win Round 1 Matches

October 22, 2022

Xavier Badminton Singles, Corinne Ladha ’25 and Maggie Henry ’25, won their State First Round matches on Friday, October 21, at Independence HS.

Corinne defeated Sripathi of Sandra Day O’Connor 21-14, 21-16.
Maggie defeated Heredia of Desert Ridge 21-9, 21-8

However, both ran into highly-ranked opponents in Round 2.
— Corinne lost to #4 Schlesinger of Sunnyslope 13-21, 7-21
— Maggie lost to #2 S. Bodhankar of Hamilton 10-21, 13-21

In State Doubles, the Xavier duo of Gigi Riviere ’23 / Sarah Castlen ’23 was matched up with the #7-ranked doubles team of Chen / Pequeno from Corona del Sol.

Gigi and Sarah made it a close match as they lost by just 2 in the first game, just 3 in the 2nd match, 22-24 and 18-21.

Up next, #8 Xavier Badminton begins their State Team Championship journey on Monday, October 24, @ 4pm as they host #9 Red Mountain in the Xavier Activity Center.
