Virginia G. Piper

Virginia G. Piper supported Xavier College Preparatory throughout her lifetime and after her death. Her legacy is evident in two major buildings on campus – the Piper Center for Math and Science (1994), and the Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center (2003).

Her generous gifts provide thousands of young women each year with the challenging curriculum and unprecedented leadership opportunities in the arts and sciences. The Xavier community remains most grateful to Mrs. Piper and the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust.

2018-2019 Performances

The Music Man

The Music Man won both Tony and Academy Awards and for good reason. This tribute to life in a small Iowa town in 1912 is filled with memorable characters and songs. The musical may be old-fashioned in its humor and sentiment, but it feels amazingly original and new in its use of music, dance, and characters to tell the tale of a salesman who hoodwinks and charms the suspicious town of River City, Iowa into entrusting their money and children to a modern day Pied Piper.
The Music Man contains among the most memorable songs of Broadway, including “76 Trombones,” “Goodnight, My Someone,” “Lida Rose,” and “Gary, Indiana,” to name a few. Bring your family and friends of all ages to see this All-American classic! There’s every reason for everyone to attend!

Little Women

Louisa May Alcott’s beloved classic book, Little Women, recently has been brought to life as a quite wonderful musical. The story takes place during the American Civil War and follows the lives of four sisters as they are growing up. Their adventures, plus their relationships with each other, their parents, and the young men they meet and love all come together to create a truly special and delightful tribute to young people and their amazing spirits.
Little Women has earned awards throughout its history on bookshelves and on stage. Music Theatre International states: “Little Women guarantees a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit…The powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.”
Suitable for the entire family, don’t miss seeing this classic tale told in the great American musical tradition! The Xavier and Brophy students you see on stage and who work behind the scenes will definitely transport you and offer you a fabulous experience at the theatre!
