Xavier’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department is committed to educating the whole person by equipping students with the practical knowledge, critical thinking skills, creativity, and confidence needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences, students build life skills that prepare them for success in college, careers, families, and everyday life.
Our curriculum connects classroom learning with real-world application. In every course, students engage in authentic experiences such as designing, creating, cooking, budgeting, problem-solving, and evaluating everyday situations. These opportunities encourage students to become creative thinkers, effective collaborators, responsible decision-makers, and confident leaders. Students develop independence, adaptability, resilience, and an appreciation for lifelong learning while learning when to collaborate with others and when to take initiative on their own.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Department believes practical life skills are essential to forming well-rounded young women. By cultivating lifelong learning, service, responsibility, and leadership, we prepare students to make informed choices that strengthen their families, enrich their communities, and positively impact the world around them. Our goal is to help students develop not only practical skills, but also the character, confidence, compassion, and judgment to lead lives of purpose and excellence.
