Xavier Track & Field finished on top at the Black Hawk Classic Frosh/Soph Invitational at Williams Field High School on Saturday. The Gators scored 186 points to beat eight other teams in the field. Second place finished with 107 points. Winning the meet was great, but it wasn't the most important thing.
The Gators produced 21 PRs (personal records) or PBs (personal bests). That's 21 victories.
Personal victories drive these girls to train hard and stay focused. And they bring satisfaction and pride whenever they are attained.
ATTAINABLE POSSIBILITIES. The joy of track and Field participation.
Xavier All-Time Top-Ten Mark
Sophomore Addie Bandura produced the only Xavier All-Time Top-Ten mark, and it came in the Javelin. Addie surpassed the 100-ft barrier for the first time, improving from 97-9 to 101-8, an upgrade of almost four feet. She was already ranked #3 all-time for Xavier, but now she is less than six feet away from #2.
In addition, Addie upgraded her shot put PR, going from 25-6 to 27-6.25, a PR-demolition of two-foot.
Other Notable Personal Records
Middle distance runner Nina Rao: 400m from 61.60 to 60.17.
This is important because she typically runs a leg of the 4x400m relay. She is close to becoming the second Gator to run a sub-60 in the open 400m this year. This could be a foreshadowing of her running a sub-60 leg on the 4x400 relay soon, which no one has done yet this year.
In addition, Nina PR'd in the 200m.
800m/1600m/4x400m-relay runner Avaani Lalliam: 400m - 60.93.
Like Nina Rao, Avaani is showing signs of running a sub-60 leg of the 4x400m relay this year. In addition, Avaani PR'd in the 200m.
Charlie Werner: 1600m from 5:54.7 to 5:51.48.
Charlie is approaching that 5:50 barrier, and after a 6:03 in her first 1600m race this year, she had PR'd in all four 1600m races after that.
Evelyn McGuire: 300 hurdles - 51.08 to 50.27
Evelyn is the third-best Xavier 300-hurdler this year and closing in on the 50-second barrier. Xavier is now closer to having three hurdlers under 50 seconds in the 300H.
Brooklyn Munter: outstanding day! Two PRs: Discus and Javelin.
Brooklyn shattered her discus personal best by a whopping 21 feet, from 67-1 to 88-1. She improved by eleven inches in the javelin: from 82-10 to 83-9.
AJ Burke: Pole Vault.
AJ vaulted 5-6 in each of her first three pole vault competitions this year. This Saturday, she must have said to herself: "Enough is Enough!" She bested her PR by an amazing one and a half feet. Her PR now stands at 7-0.
Emma Molina and Gianna Valenzuela: Pole Vault
Emma and Gianna each improved on their Pole Vault PR by six inches: Emma from 6-6 to 7-0 and Gianna from 5-6 to 6-0.
