Xavier Softball Defeats Sandra Day O'Connor for Fourth Win in a Row

Xavier Softball won their fourth game in a row on Petznick Field on Tuesday, taking down the Sandra Day O'Connor Eagles 5-3, improving their conference record to 10-3, and holding on to a #4-ranking in the 6A State Division.
In the bottom of the first inning, Makenzie Latvaaho stepped up to the plate, with Sariah McNabb on third and Sydney Root on first via a walk. Root stole second base to put both runners in scoring position. Latvaaho hit a hard grounder through the right side of the infield to score both runners, giving Xavier an early 2-0 lead. (You can see all of Xavier's hits and scoring plays in the highlight video below)
Bats went quiet for both teams in the second and third innings.
In the top of the fourth inning, opposing pitcher Maci Jones singled in a run to narrow Xavier's lead to one.
A beautiful bunt-single by Joie Ramos led off Xavier's half of the fourth. BUT, two batters later, Xavier was down two outs and one runner on base. BUT THEN, Mckenna Hackett drew a walk, McNabb smashed a double to left center, and Root clobbered a double to right center. SO NOW, all was right with the world as Xavier led 5-1.
O'Connor did respond in the top of the 5th with a booming, two-run homer to close the gap, Xavier 5-3.
But the only noise for the rest of the game following O'Connor's home-run shot came through two more Xavier doubles: Noe Romo in the 5th and Mckenna Hackett in the 6th.
Pitcher Sydney Root came through with another stellar performance, allowing three runs on four hits, giving up three walks, and striking out eight batters.
