#4 Xavier Lacrosse Struggles Against Second-Best Team in Division

Chris Pfaff, Xavier Sportswriter

Xavier Lacrosse faced the Chaparral Firebirds three weeks ago and came away with a respectable one-point loss to the second-best team in the Division. On Monday, however, the Firebirds overwhelmed the Gators 16-3.

The first six minutes of the game did not foreshadow this level of Xavier's demise. Chaparral may have scored the first goal of the game, but a few minutes later, Xavier scored two goals in quick succession to take the lead 2-1. But then, the Firebirds turned a one-point deficit into a two-point advantage by the end of the first quarter, 4-2.

However, the Gators hung on to hope with a solid second quarter of play, allowing the Firebirds just one goal and still within reach at 2-5.

You may have heard of proverbial floodgates. Well, they released a proverbial flood. Chaparral scored four goals in the third quarter and seven in the last. The Gators, working hard the entire game, threw in a goal of their own in the fourth quarter.

The highlight video below features Xavier's three goals and several miscellaneous highlights, including one from Xavier's own Houdini, Coco Digerness.
