Wednesday Evening Xavier Soccer Match a Thriller . . . With a Good Ending
Chris Pfaff, Xavier Sportswriter
After losing in their season opener at Sandra Day O'Connor last week, 2-3, Xavier Soccer squeaked out a victory in their home opener versus Boulder Creek last night on Petznick Field.
The victory was so squeaky that the score remained 0-0 from the opening kick-off until 1:36 left in the match, when SR Kyleigh Carr scored the lone goal of the game, giving Xavier the win and saving spectators from having to endure two ten-minute overtime periods.
Throughout the game, Xavier had significantly more threatening shots on goal than Boulder Creek. Finally, the dam broke when JR Reese Koehler took a shot on goal from just outside the penalty box to the middle in front of the net, and Kyleigh eventually headed the ball into the goal.
Xavier Soccer plays Hamilton next Monday, 12/15, on Petznick Field at 7pm.
Xavier Highlights: - five shots on goal that had a chance - a tricky move by Kyleigh Carr on the bleachers side of the field, drawing spectator reaction - Kyleigh's goal
