Xavier Cross Country Fourth at Western Equinox Invite

Yesterday, the Xavier Cross Country team skipped Friday classes to compete in the Western Equinox Invitational in southeast Mesa at the Arizona Athletic Grounds complex -- their second meet of the young season. At 6:30 AM, the Xavier top seven completed the 3.1-mile Championship race, finishing fourth out of twelve teams, with senior Chantel Newman being the lone Gator to finish in the top ten in a field of 90 runners. The Gators also competed in the Open 2 and Freshman races later in the meet.

THINGS TO NOTICE ABOUT OUR TOP SEVEN WITH RESPECT TO NEXT YEAR
  • Just one senior in the top five; two seniors in the top seven
  • Our #2, #3, and #4 are all sophomores
  • On paper, next year we return our #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6 runners
  • Solid improvement in race times for the six who ran in last year's Western Equinox Invite (especially Jacques, who knocked 2 minutes and 26 seconds off last year's time when she ran in the Freshman race)

TWO GATORS FINISHED IN THE TOP FIVE IN THE FRESHMAN RACE

2nd - FR Jane Dolasinski - 23:11
5th - FR Nora Finn - 23:54

Notice that Dolasinksi and Finn would have been Xavier's #2 and #3 runners, respectively, in the Open race. Both would have finished in the top ten in the Open race: Dolasinski 5th and Finn 8th. These two freshmen runners brighten the future of Xavier cross country.
