Xavier fans witnessed a Shootout on Petznick Field Wednesday night, April 1st. The Gators Lacrosse team defeated the Cactus Shadows Falcons 11-10.
Cactus Shadows (5-2) was sitting higher than Xavier (4-4) in the standings prior to Wednesday night's contest, so this victory was a satisfying accomplishment for the Gators. Xavier moved from #5 or #6 in the standings to #4.
The game felt like a dogfight as Cactus Shadows led once (1-1) and then spent the rest of the time going between falling behind and tying the score. There were five ties -- at 1, 2, 6, 7, and 9. The Gators managed leads of three twice and two five times, but the Falcons always had an answer until they ran out of time.
Junior Mackenna Packer scored four goals, senior Claire McCloskey scored three, freshman Coco Digerness scored twice, and seniors Sammy Schubert andAmelia Busch each scored once.
The narrated highlight video below features the following things:
all Xavier goals except Mackenna Packer's first score
some goalie stops by Zoie Alexander and Lexie Hoskin
an in-game demonstration by Amelia Busch on the meaning of "turning on a dime"
