The #5 Varsity soccer team beat #28 Sunrise Mountain 5-0 last night in the first round of the Open State Tournament.

The first goal was scored by senior captain Olivia Yu, who maneuvered her way around a defender and put a beautiful shot to the far post.

The second goal was an amazing goal by Myriam Lawrence when junior outside back Reese Koehler delivered a perfect service to Myriam, who hit a one-time shot out of the air for an incredible goal.

The third goal was created by freshman midfielder Kennedy Boyer, who found fellow senior Kateri Etsitty, who then struck a great shot over the goalkeeper into the side netting for a beautiful goal.

In the second half, senior midfielder Kateri Etsitty found senior Captain Nev Herzog, who struck a long-distance shot over the goalkeeper for the fourth goal of the night and another amazing goal.

The final goal of the night was scored by senior Sunney Merida Avila when fellow senior Blair Calihan delivered a perfect pass to Sunney, who tucked the ball nicely to the far post for the fifth goal of the night.

Everyone got to play and contribute. This was a nice team win.

The #5 Gators will play again at home tomorrow night, 2/11, at 6:00 p.m. against #12 Canyon View in the second round of the Open State Tournament. Good luck Gators!

Apologies to Myriam Lawrence for me not capturing on video the ball going into the net for Xavier's second goal of the game.
