Xavier Flag Football: Convincing Win vs Perry

Chris Pfaff, Xavier Sportswriter
Following a quick start by Perry within the first six minutes of the game on Tuesday, 10/6, on Petznick Field, Xavier responded by overtaking the Pumas and never looking back.

Perry was up 9-0 before I could finish fiddling with my brand new camcorder and begin to shoot video. My first video clip was a recording of the Xavier punt that followed the safety they had just experienced at the hands of the Pumas.

Down 0-9 in the first quarter, the Gators finally landed on paydirt via a sophomore connection from quarterback Molly Lim to receiver Hailey Monroe.

Three plays into Perry's next possession, freshman Giselle Robinson-Walwyn intercepted a Puma pass, setting up the Gators' next possession to start on the Perry 35-yard line.

Five plays later on the first play of the second quarter, Lim carried the ball into the end zone. And after sophomore kicker Nora Bunten nailed the extra point, Xavier led 13-9 and refused to relinquish the new-found lead for the rest of the game.

Perry may have started (so to speak) with nine points, but they also finished with nine points. Xavier wins 30-9.

That early second-quarter score of 13-9 stayed put all the way until half-time in spite of a 25-yard scamper on the last play of the first half by quarterback Lim, who was hauled down one yard shy of the end zone.

During the third quarter, the Gators wreaked havoc on the Pumas on both sides of the ball.
  • They intercepted three Puma passes
  • They scored two touchdowns on a QB run by Lim and a reception by sophomore Evie Maas just inside the back line of the end zone
  • The four-point Xavier lead ballooned to eighteen 27-9
In the fourth quarter, four defensive plays and one interception made the highlight video, along with Nora Bunten adding the three final points to Xavier's tally with a field goal.

All plays mentioned above are included in the highlight videos. The videos are well-represented by the offense and the defense.

In addition, you will see a long punt return by junior Ellie McLaughlin and an interception duet performed by Giselle Robinson-Walwyn and McLaughlin.

#21 Xavier Flag Football plays #31 Sunnyslope this Friday night on Sunnyslope's home field at 6:00 PM.

In the following videos, when I say HOLLY Lim, it should be MOLLY Lim.
