Sophie Wix '14 - selected for Fulbright Award to the UK
Big news for one of our alumnae! Sophie Wix ’14 has been selected for a research-based Fulbright Award to the UK, an honor only received by 2 students in the US each year! She will be joining Dr. Carlos Caldas and his colleagues at Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute this fall and will be pursuing a 1-year MPhil in Medical Science studying breast cancer at Cambridge University. Wix is also the first Trojan to be named a UK Fulbright Scholar in USC history.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
Fulbrighters address critical global challenges in all areas while building relationships, knowledge, and leadership in support of the long-term interests of the United States. Fulbright alumni have achieved distinction in many fields, including 59 who have been awarded the Nobel Prize, 82 who have received Pulitzer Prizes, and 37 who have served as a head of state or government.
Wix has said that, “[she] is very excited by this opportunity and cannot thank Xavier enough for the support and love over the years. My education at Xavier undoubtedly accelerated my undergraduate experiences at USC—I would not have applied for the Fulbright, nor would I have participated in such cutting-edge research at USC, if it weren’t for my background in science in high school. I owe you all a huge thank you for the abundant opportunities and doors opened to me because of my XCP education.”
We love sharing the amazing things our graduates are up to! Way to go Gator! Xavier is proud of you!
