Jada Sims ('19) Breaks School Record in the Heptathlon
Competing in the USA Track & Field Arizona Association Junior Olympic Combined Championships at Mountain Pointe High School last weekend, Jada Sims broke the school record in the heptathlon by 64 points with a score of 4137.
In the heptathlon, each athlete competes in 7 events over the course of two days.
Day 1: 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 meters
Day 2: Long jump, javelin throw, and 800 meters
During the 2018 season, Jada's primary events included the 100 hurdles, long jump, high jump, and the 4x400 meter relay. She finished the Xavier track season as the school record holder in the high jump, ranked 2nd all time for Xavier in the 100 hurdles, ranked 3rd in the long jump, and part of the school-record-holding 4x400 meter relay team.
Also during the 2018 season, Jada competed once in the 200, once in the 800, and once in the shot put, but she did not compete in the javelin.
At last week's heptathlon, Jada threw a 7-inch personal record in the shot put, tied her school record in the high jump, and threw the javelin for the first time in competition. This tells me that her newly-acquired school record point total in the heptathlon is bound to change between now and her 2019 graduation from Xavier.
Jada gets her first chance to raise the proverbial bar June 15-17 in North Carolina at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Track & Field Meet. Her performance in her first-ever heptathlon competition indicates that she will be competitive at this upcoming national meet. Jada's point total of 4137 would have put her in 8th place at lasts year's New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet.
Way to go Jada; have a great meet at New Balance!!
