Guidance & Counseling

Welcome Students and Parents

Xavier’s Guidance Department recognizes that the high school years constitute a period of change in young women spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically. We believe that young women thrive by working cooperatively in a supportive and challenging environment.

The mission of the Guidance Department is to encourage an ethical awareness within each student emerging from a spirit of caring and connection between the young woman’s experiences and her sensitivity toward the needs of others. Xavier’s counselors work to develop a young woman’s individuality, sense of responsibility, personal initiative, and assumption of leadership. They aspire to help each young woman recognize the relationship between her education and the larger issues of respect for self and others, and human dignity in the world order.

The Guidance Department aims to implement its philosophy through the following goals:
  • To work closely with the administration, faculty, parents, and young women in assisting the students to achieve their highest personal and scholarly potential.
  • To establish a nurturing relationship between counselors and the counselees.
  • To provide a cooperative atmosphere to facilitate the services of the Guidance Department with students and their parents.
  • To assist young women to make sound personal and academic decisions.
  • To make available, through individual and group meetings, information necessary for the best curriculum choices, self-help and supportive resources, and future educational needs.
  • To introduce students to opportunities and choices for post-secondary plans.
  • To facilitate with students the procedures and steps in the college application process.

Our Mission

The mission of Xavier College Preparatory is a Catholic community that strives to prepare young women with the knowledge, skills, and integrity to meet the challenges of a changing global society in a positive and productive manner. The guidance department follows this mission in their interactions with the students. A counselor is assigned to each student and works with her for four years.
