Outstanding Art Educator Named Teacher and Artist Alison K. Dunn
The annual 2019 Secondary Division Outstanding Art Educator award was presented to Alison K. Dunn, M.A., M.F.A. by the Arizona Art Education Association. This accolade is a testament to Dunn’s dedication to quality art education in the state.
Serving as Chair of the Studio Arts Department, Dunn has taught at Xavier since 2008. She currently teaches Intermediate and Advanced Drawing and Painting, Oil Painting I & II, AP Art History, AP Studio, and moderates an Honors Independent Study course.
Xavier Principal Sr. Joanie Nuckols, BVM said, “Our students and the entire Xavier community benefit greatly from Alison’s teaching and inspiration. She ensures our visual arts program is a vital component of 21st-century learning.”
When Dunn learned of the award she said, “I’m proud to be recognized. Teaching art and helping students solve creative problems requires high energy and a positive attitude. And, of course, it requires me to always see the best in my students. I don’t take my position lightly, and I am honored by this award.”
In addition to teaching, Dunn is an artist in her own right, specializing in oil painting and abstract art. She has exhibited in galleries across the country. Dunn has also taught at Arizona State University, Trinity University, and Mesa Community College.
