DANCE
Mission Statement
The dance department offers a variety of classes focusing on educating dancers in ballet, modern, and jazz technique, history, improvisation, and choreography. Other styles such as hip-hop, ethnic, salsa, etc...are
also experienced throughout the year. The dance department has an ongoing relationship with Ballet Arizona and other well known artists for master classes that are integrated into the curriculum.

Kelly Martell Scovel - Dance Basics, Introduction to Dance and Advanced Dance
Introduction to Dance- A beginning dance class for all Freshwomen. This course encompasses ballet, modern and jazz techniques. History, Improvisation, and Choreography will also be addressed. This theory section of the class is why we have all freshwomen start the program together, regardless of technique level. The course is designed to challenge each student on their level.
Dance Basics- A one semester class sampling ballet, modern, jazz and hip hop. Some choreography and theory is also addressed in this course. Designed for sophomores-seniors.
Intermediate Dance- An intermediate level of ballet, modern, jazz and other styles. Choreography, history and improvisation are included in this year long course offered for sophomores-seniors. It is recommended that students take intermediate after Intro to dance. Instructor approval is also an option if a student is entering from
outside the program.
Advanced Dance- Full year course offered to Juniors and Seniors by teacher recommendation. Various style of dance will be addressed. The emphasis of this course is the art of making dances/choreography.
Performance Dance- By audition only. Juniors and Seniors only. This class is designed for students to study a high level of modern, ballet and jazz techniques. Theory is also covered and many guest artist
experiences are provided in this year long course.
Dance Concerts:
Christmas Pageant Dec. 5th for students and Dec. 7th 2 pm for the public free
April 16th Spring Dance Basics/Intermediate Performance 7 pm in the auditorium $3.00
April 21st Spring Performance/Advanced dance concert 7 pm in the auditorium $5.00
April 23rd Beginning Dance performance 7 pm in the auditorium $3.00
