Theatre - Once on this Island

Tickets are $7.00. There will be general seating.

Set on a Caribbean island,
Once On This Island, book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty (the composers/writers of Ragtime), based on the Hans Christian Andersen’s story, The Little Mermaid, is the brilliantly told fable of Ti Moune, a young, poor girl who falls in love with the wealthy Daniel.  The “star crossed” lovers struggle to change their fates.  They fight against class, tradition, and prejudice.  What becomes of them is for you, the audience, to discover.

It has been said we must dream larger than our own lifetime in order to change the world.  This is a tale about a village, a community, and how we are all connected.  The joyous music and dancing, and the beautiful and colorful visuals will make you wishing for more as you leave the theatre.  The story, music, dancing, and visual beauty will resonate with you long after the performance is over.

Tickets are $7.00. There will be general seating.

This modern adaptation captures the joy and sensitivity of Jane Austen’s beloved masterpiece.  Sense and Sensibility is still popular two centuries after it was written.  Austen is considered one of the pioneers of the modern novel, and her themes, including consequences of personal choices and responsibilities, social status, and the pains and joys of becoming an adult, are as relevant today as they were when Austen wrote her lovely novel.

The Dashwood sisters, Elinor, Marianne, Margaret, and their mother are left homeless after Mr. Dashwood dies.  They are at the mercy of the kindness of others.  Securing favorable marriages for Elinor and Marianne becomes one of their main objectives.  The journeys and romantic relationships of the Dashwoods and the men and women they encounter, all set against the background of proper 19th Century British society, yields a most humorous, joyful, and touching story well worth attending.
